- உலைவிடம் என்பது போரில் தோல்வி நேர்ந்து நிலை தளரும் நேரம்; தொலைவிடம் என்பது வீரர்கள் பலர் வீழ்ந்து படை சுருங்கிய நிலை. அத்தகைய இக்கட்டான நேரத்திலும் காயத்துக்கு அஞ்சாமல் உறுதியாக நிற்கும் துணிவு, நெடுங்காலமாக அரசனோடு இருந்து பழகிய பழம்படைக்கே உண்டு; மற்றப் படைகளுக்கு அது அரிது. நீண்ட காலப் பிணைப்பே கடினமான நேரத்தில் உறுதியைத் தருகிறது.
