- தார் என்பது பகைப்படையின் முன்னணி; தானை என்பது படை. தன்னை நோக்கி வரும் போரை எப்படித் தாங்குவது என்ற முறையை அறிந்து, பகைவரின் முன்னணிப் படை தாக்கும்போது அதைத் தாங்கிக்கொண்டு முன்னேறிச் செல்வதே படை. வெறும் வீரம் மட்டும் போதாது; எதிர்ப்பைச் சமாளிக்கும் முறையையும் அறிந்திருக்க வேண்டும்.
