Chennai’s Ayanavaram police on Friday arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl at her residence.
Police said the child was playing inside her house when the accused, identified as Vijay, entered the premises and allegedly committed the assault.
When a police team moved in to apprehend him, Vijay attempted to escape, but fell during the chase and sustained a fracture in his arm, officials said.
He was taken for treatment and will be sent to Puzhal prison after obtaining a medical fitness certificate from the Government Stanley Hospital. The child was rescued by a woman police officer, police added.
