The Federation of Govt Doctors’ Associations in Tamil Nadu has announced a hunger strike in Chennai from March 5, intensifying its agitation over a pay increase and other pending service-related demands.
The federation said key demands include implementation of GO 354 issued during the tenure of former chief minister M Karunanidhi, and a ₹3,000 allowance for doctors working in all primary health centres (PHCs). It also reiterated the need for timely promotions.
According to the federation, its representatives held discussions with health minister Ma Subramaniam and senior officials, who assured support. However, the group said the talks did not lead to a resolution.
Convenor Dr A Ramalingam said the federation had already conducted multiple protests, including a 48-hour fast, and has now decided to escalate the agitation to a fast unto death. He appealed for the chief minister’s urgent intervention.
