Tamil Nadu has stepped up measures to support Tamils living in Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries as regional tensions rise amid hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Chief Minister M K Stalin said the state government is concerned about the safety of Tamils in the region, noting Government of India advisories that urge citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors.
The Department of Welfare and Rehabilitation of Non-Resident Tamils has been asked to closely track developments and stay in constant touch with members of the Tamil diaspora in the affected countries. Officials have also been instructed to provide immediate assistance wherever required.
A dedicated control room has been set up at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to coordinate with central authorities and monitor the situation. The Chief Minister urged Tamils in the Gulf to strictly follow advisories issued by Indian embassies in their respective countries and to prioritise safety during the ongoing crisis.
