Former BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai has questioned the DMK and its alliance partners over what he called selective protests, citing the absence of street demonstrations after Indians were shot dead by terrorists in Pahalgam.
His remarks came after a protest in Chennai that condemned the killing of Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The protest was held near the US Consulate, where Muslim organisations staged a siege and raised slogans against the US and Israel.
Leaders including VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi leader Thamimun Ansari, Kongu Ilaignar Peravai leader Thaniyarasu and Mukkulathor Pulipadai leader Karunas took part in the demonstration.
In a statement, Annamalai said DMK and its allies did not come out to protest when “innocent Indians” were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, which he attributed to Pakistan-backed terrorists.
He also alleged that the Chennai protest was held with full police protection, while protests by teachers, nurses, anganwadi workers and government employees do not receive similar support and often face arrests. He claimed the DMK’s priority is to keep its allies satisfied.
