Riyadh: A drone attack attributed to Iran has struck Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura refinery, described as the world’s largest oil refining facility, triggering international concern.
According to the report, the incident comes after the United States carried out an attack on Iran on February 28, in which Iran’s leader Khamenei and 48 key figures were said to have been killed. Iran, angered by the development, reportedly rejected indirect outreach linked to remarks by US President Donald Trump.
Amid escalating tensions for a third consecutive day across West Asian countries, the drone strike hit the Ras Tanura unit within Aramco. An oil storage area caught fire, but the blaze was brought under control after swift action.
As a precautionary measure, Aramco has shut the facility. With crude trade and stock markets already under pressure due to the US-Iran conflict, investors are now worried that oil prices could climb to a new peak following the attack on Saudi refining infrastructure.
