Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in New Delhi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations. The talks were held at Hyderabad House, followed by a joint interaction with the media.

According to officials, the two leaders reviewed cooperation across trade, energy, minerals, agriculture and education. Agreements were signed in the presence of both leaders.

Speaking to reporters, Modi said Carney’s first visit to India as prime minister was an important milestone. He also recalled the welcome extended to him during the G7 meeting in Canada last year.

Modi said the situation in West Asia was “very worrying” and reiterated India’s support for resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. He added that India would continue working with countries in the region to ensure the safety of Indians there.

Modi also said both India and Canada agreed that terrorism poses a serious challenge not only to the two countries but to humanity as a whole. Separately, Carney and his wife Diana were hosted in Mumbai by Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani and their family, with traditional cultural performances.
