Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday accused the DMK government of creating traffic congestion to prevent people from attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in Madurai.

The BJP-led alliance rally was held near the Mandela Ring Road area and was described as the first major meeting for the southern districts. Thousands were brought in vehicles, and a parking facility was arranged near a private hotel on the Ring Road.

However, party workers and members of the public reportedly struggled to reach the venue due to strict police checks. As the Prime Minister’s arrival time neared, Goyal went to the parking area and questioned the police about the restrictions.

Goyal then personally helped regulate traffic and organise parking. In the congestion, BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan, who arrived by car, got down and walked after noticing Goyal at the parking point.

After the meeting concluded, Goyal told reporters that traffic was affected for about 15 km, alleged that police did not cooperate, and said he had to intervene on the ground to manage the situation.
