New Delhi: India has said the continuing conflict in West Asia is having severe consequences for the economy, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy, saying New Delhi is raising its voice in support of an early end to the hostilities.
He expressed regret over the loss of lives in the region and noted that around one crore Indians live in Gulf countries, making their safety a top priority for the government.
India also strongly opposed attacks on commercial shipping. The spokesperson said that in recent days, some Indians have died due to such incidents and others have been reported missing.
He added that the situation in the region has worsened during the holy month of Ramadan.
