Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Prime Minister is “unleashing lies” during the election season because he has no concrete achievements to cite.

Speaking in an interview at an English weekly magazine event in Chennai, Stalin said the DMK government had become an “all-rounder” across sectors over the past five years. He claimed Tamil Nadu’s economic performance had been praised by the BJP-led Union government itself, and said even BJP-ruled states could not show similar growth.

Stalin also accused the BJP of promoting violence, hate speech and backward-looking politics, while projecting the DMK as a progressive alternative. He said the state had achieved results despite pressure and without support from the Centre, and added that his government listens to criticism from opposition parties and addresses shortcomings.

Referring to Modi’s recent visit to Madurai, Stalin rejected allegations about delays in the Chennai Maduravoyal–Port elevated corridor project. He said the AIADMK—an ally of the BJP—had earlier blocked the project, and that work began only after the DMK government took up the matter with the Union government.

Taking aim at the BJP-led alliance, Stalin said there was confusion over leadership, pointing to differing claims made on the same stage about who would form the government. He asserted that the DMK alliance was built on shared ideas rather than mere numbers, and concluded that while Modi had called a DMK return a “mirage”, it would be the BJP’s dream of ruling Tamil Nadu that would prove illusory.
