BJP leader and former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has accused the DMK government of “choking” the people even in what he called its final days, alleging a sharp deterioration in law and order across the state.
In a statement, state BJP president Nainar Nagendran said reports from Perumbathu near Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district were shocking, alleging that a gang under the influence of ganja attacked people at a tea shop and killed two persons with machetes. He claimed ganja circulation has increased over the past five years across both towns and villages, affecting youth and public safety.
Annamalai, in a separate statement, said a drunken gang entered Perumbathu village and launched an attack with deadly weapons. He said two migrant workers from Odisha—identified as John and Trinath Katta—were killed while passing through the area on a bicycle, and that six others were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment.
He further alleged that more than 65,000 kg of ganja and over 8,000 kg of other narcotics were seized in the last five years, arguing this reflects the extent of drug penetration in the state. AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran also criticised the DMK, referring to an incident in Nanguneri in which two people died in an attack involving petrol bombs, and demanded the arrest and strict punishment of those responsible.
