Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday said the state government has credited an additional Rs 2,000 as special assistance along with the March social security pension to beneficiaries.

In a statement, Stalin said the move follows requests to extend a similar special support to people living on the margins who receive monthly assistance, including senior citizens, widows, elderly transgender persons and persons with disabilities.

As part of the disbursal, a total of 29.29 lakh beneficiaries under various social security schemes received Rs 3,200 each, while 5.92 lakh persons with disabilities received Rs 3,500 each. In addition, 2.58 lakh families receiving maintenance assistance for persons with disabilities were credited Rs 4,000 each on Tuesday morning.

The Chief Minister also noted that fishing-ban period assistance is being provided for April to June at Rs 8,000 per family to 1,62,900 fisher families. He further said Rs 8.53 crore is being released as a support price of Rs 2 per kg for green tea procured through 15 cooperative tea factories, benefiting 14,870 tea growers in the Nilgiris.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Stalin said Tamil Nadu’s development journey would not leave anyone behind.
