New Delhi: The BJP has alleged that a former office-bearer of the Haryana Mahila Congress was asked to pay up to Rs 7 crore to secure a party ticket to contest the Assembly election, triggering a fresh political row.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said WhatsApp message exchanges related to the alleged deal were made public by Gaurav Kumar, the husband of the former Mahila Congress functionary. He claimed the messages amount to preliminary evidence of corruption involving the Sonia Gandhi family.
Bhandari did not disclose the name of the former Mahila Congress leader. He also did not clarify whether the alleged bargaining took place specifically during the 2024 Assembly election.
Addressing reporters, Bhandari alleged that Congress general secretary and MP Priyanka Vadra, through her personal assistant, sought Rs 7 crore for a Congress ticket, and claimed senior leader K C Venugopal and a person named Suresh were linked to the matter. He further said the Sonia Gandhi family has not denied the charge so far.
BJP MP Sambit Patra accused the Congress of turning ticket distribution into a “shopping mall” model, while BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged the party’s culture had become steeped in corruption from Punjab to Kerala.
