Chennai: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) police said 126 government officials were awarded prison sentences in bribery cases during 2024–25.
DVAC officials said the agency monitors government offices across the state, registers cases based on complaints and carries out arrests. During 2024–25, preliminary inquiries were initiated against 171 officials, while detailed inquiries were taken up in 129 complaint cases.
In the same period, 199 bribery-related cases were registered and 681 government officials were arrested, DVAC said. The figures were reviewed in an internal meeting that examined arrests and convictions.
By department, revenue officials accounted for the highest number of arrests with 92, followed by TASMAC staff with 41 and local body officials with 32.
DVAC also compared conviction outcomes year-on-year, stating that 94 officials received prison sentences in 2023–24, rising to 126 in 2024–25 — an increase of 32 officials.
