Washington: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has said there is no evidence that Iran has produced a nuclear bomb, a statement that contrasts with repeated claims by US President Donald Trump that Iran possesses nuclear weapons.

In his remarks, Grossi said he has been clear in his reporting on Iran’s nuclear programme. While he said there is no proof of a bomb being made, he noted that Iran has held large quantities of enriched uranium.

Grossi also said Iran has not provided sufficient cooperation for inspections and assessments of its nuclear activities, calling the situation concerning. He added that until Iran helps the IAEA resolve outstanding issues, the agency cannot confirm that Iran’s programme is exclusively peaceful.

After launching attacks on Iran, Trump said that without US action Iran would have started a nuclear war and attacked multiple countries, claiming that if Iran had nuclear weapons it would use them. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also alleged that Iran’s leadership aims to obtain nuclear weapons, but the IAEA chief maintained that there is no evidence of a nuclear bomb being produced.
