A series of political and sports developments are scheduled for March 4 across Tamil Nadu, India and abroad.

In Chennai, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami held discussions with district secretaries at the party office in Royapettah. The meeting focused on Assembly election preparations and welfare-related work.

In Thanjavur district’s Sengipatti, TVK leader Vijay addressed a gathering of party functionaries. He said that under a TVK government, paddy sacks at procurement centres would be protected, wastage would not be allowed, and no commission would be tolerated for loading and unloading, warning of strict action if commissions are taken.

Alliance negotiations are also in focus. Congress and the DMK are holding a second round of seat-sharing talks, with key decisions expected. The Makkal Needhi Maiam is also meeting the DMK on seat-sharing and is submitting a list of 15 constituencies.

Other events include a Naam Tamilar Katchi public meeting led by coordinator Seeman at Chinnamalai, Saidapet in Chennai at 4 pm. In addition, nominations for elections to six vacant Rajya Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu close tomorrow, and the DMK and AIADMK may announce candidates today.

On the sports front, in Perth, India face Vietnam in the opening match of the 21st season of the Women’s Asian Cup football tournament, with World Cup qualification at stake based on performance. In Sri Lanka, the 10th T20 World Cup continues, with South Africa and New Zealand meeting in a semi-final on Holi, and the winner advancing to the final.
