Dubai: The United Arab Emirates has said it has thwarted a wave of Iranian attacks carried out using missiles and drones, describing the incidents as part of more than 1,000 strike attempts so far.

According to the UAE, the escalation followed the breakdown of talks linked to a nuclear agreement and subsequent US action against Iran alongside Israel. The UAE said Iran has since targeted US military bases in Gulf countries including the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait.

The UAE Defence Ministry reported that Iran launched 194 missiles, of which 180 were intercepted and destroyed. It said 13 missiles fell into the sea, while one missile caused damage in the region.

On drones, the UAE said 812 were launched, with 755 intercepted and destroyed. It added that 57 drones caused damage in the region.

The UAE also stated it did not permit its territory or airspace to be used for attacks on Iran and said it would continue defensive measures to protect regional security. Separately, the government announced that the International Village would remain closed, and Dubai Police urged residents not to share photos of security positions and infrastructure.
