TVK leader Vijay on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the DMK while addressing a party meeting at Sengipatti near Thanjavur. He claimed even youngsters were beginning to describe the DMK as an “evil force”, and positioned the coming polls as a contest centred on Tamil Nadu.
Referring to his earlier remarks at a Vellore event, Vijay reiterated slogans linking himself and his party with the state, and said his political opponents were twisting his statements to portray him as speaking for the BJP. He alleged that minorities were being frightened and misled, and said such tactics would not work going forward.
Vijay also accused the ruling party of raising “Delhi” as a political slogan while allegedly seeking protection when raids follow corruption allegations. He rejected the claim that only the DMK and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin could “save” Tamil Nadu, and said voters would “blow the whistle” for TVK in the next election.
Turning to farmers and the Cauvery delta, Vijay said he wished to be born into a farming family in another life and acknowledged he did not know farming in detail, but understood the hardships farmers face. He said agricultural issues would be among the problems to be addressed if his party formed the government.
Citing reports and court observations, he alleged that failure to protect groundwater levels and unchecked sand and mineral extraction were pushing the state towards a crisis. He claimed the DMK had not acted sufficiently against sand smugglers and alleged the party had the backing of sand and mineral mafias, warning that water, sand and mineral resources were being depleted under the current regime.
