Chennai: With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election expected to be announced at any time, major parties have intensified talks to finalise alliances and seat-sharing arrangements.

On the DMK side, the long-discussed alliance with Congress has now been concluded, with an agreement signed. As part of the arrangement, Congress has been allotted 28 Assembly constituencies and one Rajya Sabha seat, while the DMK’s own final seat plan is yet to be announced.

The development comes even as AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) had repeatedly claimed the DMK–Congress tie-up would break. Meanwhile, AIADMK’s seat-sharing talks with the BJP are still not fully completed, according to the report.

DMK’s 2026 front is being projected as a “mega alliance”, with parties such as DMDK and SDPI—both previously associated with the AIADMK alliance—now joining the DMK-led camp.

In this backdrop, actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which had spoken of seeking a share in governance and power through an alliance government, is said to be without partners so far. The report notes that NTK is contesting alone, and that only PMK and Puthiya Tamilagam are yet to announce their final alliance decisions.
