New Zealand booked a place in the T20 World Cup final after defeating South Africa in the first semi-final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

South Africa, asked to bat first, lost early wickets as captain Aiden Markram (18), Quinton de Kock (10), Ryan Rickelton (0) and David Miller (6) fell cheaply. Dewald Brevis (34) and Tristan Stubbs (29) offered some resistance, while Marco Jansen remained unbeaten on 55 as South Africa finished on 169 for 8 in 20 overs.

For New Zealand, Matt Henry, Michael McConchie and Rachin Ravindra picked up two wickets each to keep the scoring in check.

In reply, openers Tim Seifert and Finn Allen launched an aggressive chase. Allen struck a 33-ball century and stayed unbeaten, while Seifert made 58 and Ravindra added 13 as New Zealand reached 173 for 1 in 12.5 overs.

The second semi-final between India and England will be played on March 5, with the winner set to face New Zealand in the final on March 8 in Ahmedabad.
