Iran has condemned the United States over the sinking of its warship ‘Dena’ in the Indian Ocean near Sri Lanka’s Galle port, calling the incident a “cruel act.”

According to the report, the vessel had taken part in exercises in the Bay of Bengal from February 18 to 25 at India’s invitation and was returning home after the drills.

Iran alleged that a US submarine carried out a torpedo attack on the warship while it was sailing near Galle, leading to the ship sinking. The incident reportedly left 87 people dead.

In a statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the attack took place about 2,000 miles from Iran’s coast and claimed it was carried out without any warning while the ship was returning after visiting India as a guest. He warned that the US would “bitterly regret” the action.
