The President has issued an order appointing Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari as the new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
The post is currently held by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, who is set to retire on March 5.
To decide the successor, the Supreme Court collegium comprising senior judges held a meeting and recommended Justice Dharmadhikari, who is serving as a judge of the Kerala High Court. The recommendation was forwarded for the President’s approval.
Following the approval, the appointment order has been issued. Justice Dharmadhikari is expected to take oath and assume office soon.
Justice Dharmadhikari previously practised as an advocate in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. A native of Raipur in Chhattisgarh, he has also served as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and has been a judge of the Kerala High Court since April last year.
