Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday filed his nomination to contest the Rajya Sabha election in Patna. BJP national president Nitin Nabin also submitted his nomination papers.

In a social media post earlier, Kumar said Bihar’s progress was driven by the continued trust and support of the people over more than two decades. He stated that he would contest the Rajya Sabha election and is expected to be elected as an MP.

Kumar added that he would extend full support and cooperation to the new government that is to be formed in Bihar. He filed his nomination in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

A ten-time Chief Minister of Bihar, Kumar is set to focus on national politics. He has previously been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the Bihar Legislative Council and the Lok Sabha; if elected to the Rajya Sabha, he would be among leaders who have served in all four Houses.

Meanwhile, people gathered outside Kumar’s residence in Bihar to protest against the move of resigning as Chief Minister and becoming a Rajya Sabha MP. The situation in the area was reported to be tense.
