Chennai: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has alleged that political opponents tried to weaken the DMK by attempting to split its alliance, even by making “offers” to partners.

In a letter to party functionaries, Stalin said the DMK is a “family” in the political sense and that the unity of its long-standing organisation unsettles rivals. He said he was not concerned about opponents’ tactics and remained focused on the party’s work.

Calling the 2026 Assembly election the next major battleground, he said the party must convert its efforts into an electoral mandate. He noted that DMK governments had implemented several welfare schemes and claimed these initiatives had helped raise Tamil Nadu’s standing.

Stalin also pointed to the continuity of the secular progressive alliance formed for the 2019 Lok Sabha election, which has since fought multiple elections together, including local body polls, the 2021 Assembly election, the 2024 Lok Sabha election and bypolls. He said the alliance has gained further strength with more parties joining, and accused rivals of building “imaginary castles” about partners breaking away.

Referring to his appeal during the 2021 election conference, Stalin reiterated his request for 10 years of continuous rule for the DMK, saying it was needed to restore and elevate Tamil Nadu after what he described as setbacks during the AIADMK regime.
