Tamil Nadu will vote on March 16 to fill six Rajya Sabha seats that are falling vacant. Based on the current strength of MLAs, the DMK is expected to secure four seats and the AIADMK two.

The DMK has allotted two of its seats to alliance partners—Congress and DMDK. March 5 was the last date for filing nominations.

At the Secretariat in Chennai on Wednesday, AIADMK candidate Thambidurai filed his nomination in the presence of party leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami. PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss also submitted his nomination papers.

In the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, DMK candidates Tiruchi Siva and Constantine Ravindran filed their nominations. DMDK’s Sudheesh and Congress candidate Christopher Tilak also filed papers.

Earlier, Sudheesh paid respects at the memorial of Vijayakanth and sought blessings before submitting his nomination. The report noted that DMDK is set to get parliamentary representation for the first time.
