Tehran: New details have emerged on the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader and ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with reports claiming he was killed in a missile strike carried out by Israeli forces using a highly accurate missile known as the “Blue Sparrow”.

The report comes amid continuing joint attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran. While Khamenei’s death is being seen as a major setback for Iran in the ongoing conflict, Iranian forces are said to be continuing to fight against the US-Israel coalition.

According to the account, US and Israeli intelligence agencies had been secretly tracking Khamenei’s movements even before the war. It says Khamenei had remained in secure hideouts until hours before the strike, and that on February 28, after information emerged that he would arrive for a high-level meeting, missiles were fired within seconds at the prime minister’s office complex, killing him and senior officials who had come to attend the meeting.

The missile used is described as being launched from an Israeli F-15 fighter jet and identified as the “Blue Sparrow,” part of Israel’s advanced ballistic missile family. The report notes related variants such as “Black Sparrow” and “Silver Sparrow.”

The “Blue Sparrow” is said to be about 6.5 metres long and weigh around 1,900 kg, with a claimed range of up to 1,240 miles (about 2,000 km). Its flight profile—rising steeply after launch and later re-entering the atmosphere at speed toward the target—is cited as a reason it is difficult to intercept.
