Rajya Sabha elections for 37 vacant seats across India are scheduled to be held on March 16. In West Bengal, nominations were filed for five seats by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP.

The TMC named four candidates and submitted their nomination papers. The list includes state minister Babul Supriyo, former West Bengal Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, senior Supreme Court advocate Menaka Guruswamy, and actor Koyal Malik.

From the BJP, former state party president Rahul Sinha filed his nomination for the West Bengal Rajya Sabha election.

With nominations in place, the contest in the state is set to proceed as part of the nationwide election to fill the vacant Upper House positions.
