Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday announced 14 major pledges at an event held in Nandambakkam, Chennai. The announcements, made ahead of the Assembly elections, outlined plans the DMK says it will implement if it returns to power.

A key promise is to build 7 lakh houses by 2030 under the “Kanavu Illam” scheme—5 lakh in rural areas and 2 lakh in urban areas. The package also includes medical insurance for people, special camps to detect diabetes and high blood pressure, and a mental health counselling centre in every district.

On education and skills, the government pledged 100% smart classrooms in all government and government-aided schools, the setting up of more than 300 libraries, and ensuring sports and life-skills education in every school. Under “Naan Mudhalvan 2.0”, additional skill training was promised, along with establishing AI laboratories in educational institutions.

The announcements also covered agriculture, water conservation and rural development, including 1,000 rainwater-harvesting structures in the Western and Eastern Ghats and a target to raise food production to 12.5 million metric tonnes. Other pledges included creating jobs for 50 lakh youth, adding 2 lakh jobs in the IT sector, modernising the textile sector in Tiruppur and Karur, expanding sea-cage fish farming, improving solid-waste management, and setting up special MSME clusters by 2030.

Speaking at the event, Stalin said March 6 would become an important day in Tamil Nadu’s political history and called for building dreams that benefit the land, the people and the state. He said the “Tamil Nadu 2030” vision would be realised through these plans.
