Bangladesh has introduced rationing for petrol and diesel sales as the country faces a fuel shortage, according to the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).

The shortage is being attributed to disruptions in global crude oil supply amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, with the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel against Iran said to be impacting international markets.

Under the new limits, two-wheelers can receive up to 2 litres of fuel, while private cars are capped at 10 litres. SUVs, jeeps and mini-buses will be supplied 20 to 25 litres.

Pick-up vans and local buses will get 70 to 80 litres, and long-distance lorries and trucks will be supplied 200 to 220 litres.

BPC also said fuel prices will not be increased during the crisis and warned against selling petrol or diesel at higher rates by citing the current situation.
