Chennai: DMK and Congress leaders took to social media to mock the sudden transfer of Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi to West Bengal.

According to the announcement, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will additionally hold charge as Tamil Nadu Governor.

During his tenure in Tamil Nadu, Ravi frequently clashed with the DMK government. The report notes that he took firm positions on issues including vice-chancellor appointments and often pointed out alleged mistakes by the Chief Minister, ministers and the government.

Ravi also insisted that the national anthem be played before the Governor’s address in the Assembly. As the Speaker did not accept this, he avoided delivering the address in the Assembly for the past three years.

Reacting to the transfer, DMK MP Wilson said he had two regrets: that DMK had “lost a star campaign speaker” ahead of the Assembly election, and that he felt sorry for the people of West Bengal and his friends in the Trinamool Congress. He added that wherever Ravi goes, the Constitution, federal structure and parliamentary democracy would be the ones to suffer.
