Meeting in Chennai
The BJP’s management committee held a consultation meeting in Chennai on Thursday. Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran discussed preparations linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state, Assembly election campaigning and the party’s election manifesto.
Talks with AIADMK to begin soon
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nagenthran said the BJP would start discussions with the AIADMK on seat-sharing “very soon”. He noted that the Assembly election date has not yet been announced and that there is still time for preparations.
Criticism of the DMK government
He claimed that Modi’s visit has created a “major upsurge” in Tamil Nadu. He also alleged that the state is witnessing a “ganja rule” and said women are unable to move around safely.
‘Change of government is certain’
Nagenthran further alleged steep increases in property tax and electricity charges, and said even people in villages are aware of what he described as the DMK government’s failures. He asserted that, no matter how many parties come together in an alliance, a change of government is certain after the election.
