WASHINGTON: Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi, who lives in the United States, said Iranians are calling on him to help bring about a change of power. He said he accepts the responsibility and has been instructed to return the country and its foreign relations to a normal state.
In a statement, Pahlavi accused Iran of targeting neighbouring countries by launching missiles at the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. He said violating the sovereignty of neighbours is unacceptable and deserves condemnation.
He argued that for nearly five decades a “terrorist rule” has fuelled bloodshed and instability across the region. He cited support for Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, the growth of Hezbollah in Lebanon, arming of the Houthis to destabilise the Arabian Peninsula, and actions that he said undermined Iraq’s sovereignty and struck economic centres in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Pahlavi said these actions did not reflect the will of the Iranian people, but that of the ruling establishment. Recalling Iran’s cooperation with Arab leaders before the Iranian revolution, he said Iran can again be a “true partner” and urged friends in the Arab world to join and recognise a transitional government.
