Washington: As military action involving the United States and Israel against Iran continues, US President Donald Trump has said Washington would support Kurdish forces if they launch attacks against Iran.
The report said the US and Israeli forces carried out strikes on February 28, alleging Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons. It also claimed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack, and that his son Mojtaba Khamenei is set to assume the role.
In response, Iran has been carrying out attacks aimed at pressuring the US and Israel, including strikes on countries seen as aligned with Washington. Qatari officials said Iran carried out a drone attack on the Al Udeid base in Qatar, the largest US military base there.
The report also said sites in Israel and US-linked locations in Kuwait and northern Iraq’s Erbil region were attacked. Against this backdrop, thousands of Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq have announced they are ready to enter Iran and are seeking US backing.
Trump was quoted as saying that if Kurdish forces move into Iran through the Iraq border and target Iranian security forces, he would provide them full support. Reports also indicated discussions took place between Trump and leaders of a major Kurdish party in Iraq on the issue.
