Washington: US President Donald Trump said the United States would focus on Cuba after the Iran war is “fully ended,” according to remarks reported from the White House.
The US has already been tightening economic sanctions aimed at toppling Cuba’s communist government. The report said Cuba is facing widespread power cuts, linked to restrictions affecting fuel exports.
Trump made the comments while meeting members of Inter Miami CF, the “Major League Soccer 2025” champions, including Lionel Messi. Cuban-origin attendees were present during the event.
Asked by reporters about the Iran war and next steps, Trump claimed US and Israeli forces were advancing quickly and that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely damaged. He said Iran lacked an air force and air defenses, and alleged that its navy had been destroyed, including 24 ships in three days.
Trump also said Iranian leaders were seeking talks on how to make a deal, but added that the US wanted to keep fighting. He later said Cuba would be addressed after Iran, prompting fears among Cubans that the US could launch an attack at any time.
Separately, the report said thousands of Kurdish fighters in northern Iraq have announced they are ready to enter Iran and are seeking US support. Trump was quoted as saying he would give full backing if Kurdish forces moved into Iran via the Iraq border and attacked Iranian security forces.
