The T20 World Cup has reached its climax, with India set to take on New Zealand in the final on Sunday in Ahmedabad. India, the defending champions and the No.1-ranked side in international T20s, can create history by winning the title for a second consecutive time.
India’s batting has been a major strength through the tournament. Sanju Samson has led the charge at the top with scores of 97 and 89 in his last two matches, while Abhishek Sharma has been inconsistent but is expected to retain his place.
In the middle order, captain Suryakumar Yadav has been central to India’s run-making, scoring 242 runs in eight matches. Tilak Varma has provided flexibility across positions, and the finishing firepower of all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube has added depth to the line-up.
With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh have spearheaded the pace attack, with Bumrah coming off a strong semi-final against England. India may consider changes in the spin department, with Varun Chakravarthy having been expensive, while Axar Patel remains a key all-round option.
New Zealand, ranked fourth in T20s, bring a line-up packed with all-rounders. Opener Allen struck a 33-ball 100 in the semi-final against South Africa, with Tim Seifert also capable of fast starts, while Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Chapman, Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner add depth. India’s fans will hope for another title win over New Zealand, similar to the Champions Trophy final triumph in Dubai on March 9, 2025.
