Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday alleged that the Trinamool Congress had insulted President Droupadi Murmu, saying the episode was “hurtful” and “deeply regrettable”. He made the remarks after inaugurating two new Delhi Metro corridors and laying the foundation stone for Metro projects worth Rs 18,300 crore.

Speaking at the event, Modi said multiple initiatives were being rolled out in the national capital, ranging from Metro expansion to housing facilities for thousands of government employees. He also credited the “double-engine” government for accelerating development works in Delhi.

Highlighting women’s empowerment, the Prime Minister extended greetings to women on International Women’s Day and said India’s “women power” was advancing across fields such as governance, science, sports and social service. He said the government remained committed to building a modern, developed Delhi.

Modi said President Murmu had travelled to West Bengal to attend a major event of the tribal community. He alleged that instead of honouring the President and the occasion, the Trinamool Congress ignored both, and said the act was not only an insult to the President but also to the Constitution and democratic traditions.
