Tiruchi: Murugan targets DMK ahead of TEJA alliance meet
Union Minister of State L Murugan on Saturday alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin is “at the peak of fear of defeat”, claiming that the outcome would be the same whenever elections are held. Speaking to reporters in Tiruchi, he said the TEJA alliance public meeting planned in the city would bring a change in Tamil Nadu politics.
Murugan said Stalin would have received survey inputs and therefore knows defeat is certain, accusing the Chief Minister of making remarks driven by that fear. He projected the TEJA alliance as gaining momentum, stating that it has more than 30 parties and is moving faster than the DMK.
The Union minister also condemned an incident in West Bengal, alleging that the Trinamool Congress government—part of the INDIA alliance along with the DMK and Congress—did not accord due respect to President Droupadi Murmu. He said either the Chief Minister or a minister should have received the President, and claimed no minister went.
Murugan further alleged that police arrangements at an event attended by the President were inadequate, calling it strongly condemnable. He also said the President belongs to a historically marginalised tribal community and criticised what he described as actions that demean her.
Commenting on actor Vijay’s political moves, Murugan said Vijay had earlier spoken against freebies but is now announcing them. He said it is unclear what impact Vijay will have in his first election, and argued that crowds drawn by film stars do not necessarily translate into votes, citing examples of film personalities and parties in the past.
