Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, formally joined the Janata Dal (United) on Saturday, according to reports from Patna.
Nishant enrolled at the party office in Patna in the presence of ministers and MLAs, marking his official entry into JD(U)’s organisational fold.
The development comes as Nitish Kumar, four months into his latest term as Chief Minister, has announced his intention to resign. He has also said he plans to enter national politics as a Rajya Sabha MP and has filed his nomination.
An official announcement on Nitish Kumar’s resignation is expected soon. In the meantime, supporters of the Chief Minister claim a consensus has been reached to consider Nishant Kumar for the post of Deputy Chief Minister after Nitish steps aside.
