A Women’s Day celebration held at the Thiruppuvanam Government Hospital in Sivaganga district on Friday witnessed a clash between two groups of the DMK, reportedly in the presence of local MLA Thamilarasi.

According to the report, the party’s local unit is split into two camps—one led by district deputy secretary Sengai Maran and another led by Achangulam Murugan, deputy president of the district farmers’ wing.

The programme was attended by MLA Thamilarasi along with supporters of Achangulam Murugan. Sengai Maran also arrived at the venue. On seeing the other group on the dais, Sengai Maran questioned organiser Dr Srividhya about conducting the event with “important persons,” following which Achangulam Murugan’s supporters left the hall.

Later, as the event was about to begin with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, Sengai Maran also walked out. Outside, an argument between the two groups escalated into a physical scuffle, prompting patients and pregnant women to leave the area hurriedly. Others attempted to intervene, after which Sengai Maran left the spot, while the MLA reportedly concluded the function without responding to the commotion.
