Chennai saw a sharp dip in gold prices on Monday (March 9), with 22-carat jewellery gold falling by Rs 800 per sovereign to Rs 1,19,600.
The per-gram rate also eased by Rs 100, taking the price to Rs 14,950. Market movements have been fluctuating in recent days amid factors including tensions in West Asia.
Earlier, after a decline since the start of the month, gold prices rose on Saturday. The rate had climbed by Rs 90 per gram to Rs 15,050, and by Rs 720 per sovereign to Rs 1,20,400.
With Sunday being a holiday, there was no change in rates. On Monday, however, prices slipped again, while silver held steady at Rs 290 per gram and Rs 2,90,000 per kg.
