BJP leader K Annamalai has alleged that a DMK functionary in Coimbatore has occupied a government-run urban Primary Health Centre (PHC) and converted it into a private residence.

In a statement, Annamalai referred to reports that Shyam Sundar, described as a deputy organiser of the DMK engineers wing in Vadavalli, is living with his family inside the urban PHC located in Vadavalli ward 36 under the Coimbatore Corporation.

Calling it an example of “abuse of power,” Annamalai said PHCs serve as a crucial lifeline for poor, working-class and middle-class families, who depend on them for services ranging from maternity care to emergency treatment.

He also criticised the state health administration, asking what response Health Minister Ma Subramanian would offer while government hospitals struggle with basic facilities.

Annamalai urged the DMK government to take strict action against the alleged encroachment and ensure the PHC building is fully restored for public use.
