The Delhi High Court on Monday admitted the CBI’s appeal challenging the discharge of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and 21 others in the excise policy case.
Last week, a special court had discharged 23 accused, stating that there was no adequate material to show the commission of offences. The court also remarked that the CBI case appeared to be based on assumptions.
Hearing the matter, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, argued that the special court’s discharge order was contrary to law. He said the accused were discharged at an early stage without a full examination of the case’s merits.
The High Court issued notices to Kejriwal and Sisodia seeking their response and adjourned the hearing to March 16.
