Union Minister of State L Murugan on Sunday inspected arrangements in Tiruchirappalli for an NDA campaign public meeting scheduled on March 11, to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to reporters, Murugan said the National Democratic Alliance was “strong with 30 parties”, while the DMK-led alliance had weakened. He alleged that Chief Minister M K Stalin was “at the peak of fear of defeat” and was making remarks driven by that fear.
Murugan also referred to actor-turned-politician Vijay, saying that after earlier opposing freebies, he has now announced them. Murugan said it was difficult to say how much impact the announcement would have or how many votes it would translate into, adding that the era when crowds for film stars automatically became votes ended with MGR’s time.
On the change of Governor, Murugan said it was a routine administrative practice and that Governor R N Ravi had been replaced accordingly. He also attributed the rise in cooking gas prices to an increase in crude oil prices internationally, while stating that the Centre was keeping prices under control so that poor and ordinary people are not affected.
