Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russia will continue to support Iran, while congratulating Mojtaba Khamenei on his appointment as the Islamic Republic’s next ruler.
In a message, Putin said he wanted to reaffirm Russia’s backing for Iran and underline solidarity with “Iranian friends.” He expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would carry forward his late father’s work with dignity.
Putin added that he believed the new leader would unite the Iranian people while facing severe trials. He noted that the role would demand courage and dedication at a time when Iran is confronting an armed aggression.
Earlier, Putin spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed deep condolences over the deaths of Iran’s ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, members of the Khamenei family, Iranian political and military leaders, and many civilians, according to the report.
