Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday warned that the ongoing war in West Asia could lead to major financial losses and impact India’s economy.
Speaking to reporters after attending the Budget Session of Parliament, Rahul said the conflict was driving global changes and pointed to a stock market fall as an early sign of the pressure countries could face.
He argued that India could take a “big hit” and said the economy was likely to suffer significant damage if the crisis deepens. He also cautioned that the West Asia situation could sharply affect fuel prices in India.
Rahul questioned why the government was not allowing a discussion in Parliament on the West Asia crisis, saying the issue involved public concerns such as fuel prices and economic stability. He alleged the government was avoiding debate and claimed the Prime Minister was not willing to participate in such a discussion.
