VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday took a swipe at TVK chief Vijay’s recent announcements, remarking that they were like the tale of a “cat drawing a line after seeing a tiger”.

Vijay, speaking at a Women’s Day event held in Mamallapuram, had announced a set of welfare measures. These included a monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 for all women heads of households, free travel for women on all buses, and a gold ring for every child born in Tamil Nadu.

Responding to these promises, Thirumavalavan said the DMK-led alliance remains strong and that the DMK government is already implementing multiple welfare schemes. He added that the government has also made new announcements keeping women’s welfare in mind.

He argued that such promises were being made out of compulsion to counter the DMK’s initiatives and would not affect the influence of the DMK alliance. He also noted that seat-sharing talks with the DMK had not been concluded.
