Chennai: Actor Trisha has strongly criticised director-actor R. Parthiban for a remark he made at a public film event, where her photo and name were used during a segment.

The comment came amid ongoing chatter linked to a court case filed by actor and TVK leader Vijay’s wife Sangeetha, who has sought divorce and alleged he is in a relationship with an actress, without naming anyone. Vijay and Trisha having appeared together at an event had also drawn attention.

At the film programme, a question was posed to Parthiban with a large image of Trisha displayed, referring to her ‘Kunthavai’ role from Ponniyin Selvan, in which Parthiban also acted. His response, framed as a joke, triggered widespread discussion on social media.

In a post on X, Trisha said she was informed at the last minute—through an individual’s assistant—that her photo and name were being used. She added that speaking into a microphone does not turn foolish remarks into wisdom or humour, and said such cruel, ignorant words reflect more on the speaker.

Soon after her post, Parthiban also issued a statement on X expressing regret, saying what happened was wrong and that he had no option but to apologise.
