On the occasion of International Women’s Day, several state governments announced new initiatives aimed at supporting women through direct cash assistance and employment measures.
In Odisha, the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi credited ₹5,000 each into the bank accounts of 1.02 crore women under the Subhadra Yojana during an event in Puri. The scheme supports women aged 21 to 60 with ₹10,000 annually in two instalments, and the Chief Minister said the assistance would help small traders and artisans while boosting purchasing power.
In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a mobile application called “Rojgar Sangam” in Lucknow, aimed at creating more job opportunities for women and promoting self-reliance. At an employment camp held in the city, over 50 companies participated and job orders were issued to more than 5,000 women.
In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 40 lakh women would receive ₹9,000 each under the Orunodoi scheme. The monthly assistance for eligible women has been increased from ₹1,250 to ₹1,500, and the payout includes four months’ dues along with a special amount linked to the Assamese New Year.
In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said in the state budget that all women aged above 18 would receive ₹1,000 per month, fulfilling an election promise. The budget also proposed ₹1,500 per month for SC women, with ₹9,300 crore allocated for the scheme in 2026–27.
