Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated Russia’s “unwavering support” for Iran while congratulating the country’s newly chosen supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, according to an official message released by the Kremlin.
The report said the United States and Israel have issued threats, stating that the new leader’s life is not guaranteed. Against this backdrop, Putin sent a congratulatory note along with a political assurance of support.
In the Kremlin’s message, Putin expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would carry forward his father’s work and unite the Iranian people amid severe challenges. He also noted that the role would require courage and dedication in the midst of an intense conflict.
Putin further stated that Russia has been a reliable partner to Iran and would remain so in the future. The statement comes as war tensions rise following attacks linked to the US-Israel alliance, signalling a strengthening of Russia-Iran ties.
